Rally for same-sex marriage rights this SAT!

Hi all,

This Saturday the 28th of November at 1pm, Sydney Town Hall, the Year of Action on same-sex marriage rights will kick off with what will hopefully be a very exciting rally!

The rally is timed to coincide with the release of recommendations from the Govt. inquiry into same-sex marriage and so it’s of upmost importance we get a big turn out to send a strong message to Kevin Rudd that same-sex rights are civil rights and that we want equality marriage rights now!

If you believe in equal rights for all and want to see an end to discrimination then you need to come to this rally and show your support!

The ACT Govt. recently passed civil unions for same-sex couples and the Victorian Labor Party has adopted a policy of same-sex marriage rights, this is a direct result of the success of the campaing thus far and we need to keep it up!

Same-Sex Marriage campaign is Full Steam ahead!!

This year, the need for equality of all is shining a very important light on pursuing equality for same-sex relationships, and the rights they deserve to Same-Sex Marriage. UWS Students have jumped onboard, and are taking part in the national rally happening on the 28th of November, 1pm, infront of Sydney’s Town Hall. As socially conscious students, empowered by our learnings here at UWS, we know about the injustice being dealt to same sex couples, and we have the power to make a statement and say we want equal rights for all!

Anyone who is interested in being part of this can become part of the UWS campaign: we meet on Tuesdays, 2pm, on Bankstown campus, in Building 1, Room G.70 (The Student Union office, opposite the UWSConnect bookstore)

Coming up next week we will be running a stall at Bankstown campus, to fundraise and give people an opportunity to sign the petition; to tell the government that we need equality.

And then the following week we will be holding a movie screening and Barbeque to once again promote this cause, and give people more of a chance to ask us questions and get involved.

Same-sex marriage campaign group

The Hive is in the process of creating a campaign group for UWS students around the issue of same-sex marriage in the lead up to the year of action for same-sex marriage rights on November 28th.

The aim of the group will be to foster support for the cause on campus and in the wider community and to build up a strong contingent for the rally for same-sex marriage rights on the 28th of November. We’re just starting out so we’re eager to get lots of ideas from you all about what we can do to make this a success.

You only have to have a keen interest in fighting for civil rights to be a part of this group!
