Privacy Statement

The Hive Student Union (“The Hive”) is the peak student representative body at UWS and is funded by the University to provide services for all students at UWS. Students are also able to get actively involved in The Hive by becoming a member. Membership is free and allows students a range of rights under The Hive’s Constitution, including the ability to nominate for positions on the elected Executive and the ability to have input into the running of The Hive by attendance at general meetings and the like.

Student may choose to become members of The Hive as part of the online enrolment process for the University. In 2010 this applies to commencing enrolments and from 2011 will apply to re-enrolling student as well. Students may also apply directly to The Hive.

The University maintains the register of members on behalf of The Hive. The register includes the student’s name, student’s ID number, student’s email address and the date that the student became a member. No other information about the members of The Hive is made available to The Hive.

The Hive Student Union adheres to the privacy principles of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 in the handling of any student personal information provided to it by the University of Western Sydney with respect of its members.

The Hive Student Union only uses its members’ e-mail addresses for official communication purposes.

The Hive Student Union suppresses its members’ e-mail addresses in any of its group e-mails for official communication purposes, and prevents replies to such e-mails from circulating to members.
